Join us on Friday, Jun 20th, at Thalia Hall for a night of Amapiano, Afro House and House, debuting one of the pioneers of Amapiano, Kabza De Small, as we bridge the cultural gap between South African Amapiano and Chicago House Music.About The Artists:Kabza De Small is the stage name of South African DJ and producer Kabelo Motha, who is considered one of the pioneers of Amapiano, a jazzy subgenre of house music. His musical career began in 2009. He was signed under Tyrique de Bruyne and released his first album Avenuee Sound in 2016 under Bestbyfar Records. Kabza established his own record label PianoHub. His breakthrough single Umshove featuring South African singer Leehleza was released in 2018. On 1 October 2019, he released Piano Hub with DJ Maphorisa. The extended play was certified 3x platinum in South Africa. The Return of Scorpion Kings was released in 29 November 2019. On 31 January 2020, Scorpion Kings (Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa) announced Scorpion Kings Live, which was set to be 11 April, at Sun Arena, Times Square in Pretoria. The concert was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and was rescheduled to 9 August. His studio album I Am the King of Amapiano: Sweet Funu, featuring Afro-pop singer Tressor in February 2021. Rumble in the Jungle, a collaborative studio album by Kabza de Small, DJ Maphorisa, and Tresor was released on 9 April 2021. In early 2023, Kabza was reported as a producer of Drakes Its All a Blur Tour. Isibussio featuring South African singer Mthunzi was released on 20 October 2023 as a lead single ahead of his extended play Isimo. The EP was released on 27 October 2023.About Duane Powell:Growing up immersed in the richness of Chicagos soul music scene of the 70s and early 80s, Duane Powell entered the world of street promotions in 1985 pounding the pavement promoting events for prominent DJs within Chicagos burgeoning house music scene starting with Lil Louis. By 1990, Duane had done street promotions and served as marketing manager and consultant for many clubs and DJs including the historic Powerhouse. As a DJ, he has spun, headlined and has held residencies at many of Chicagos most popular music venues, hot spots and festivals including Taste Of Chicago, SummerDance and Chicago House Festival. About Mobu:Mobu is a standout talent reshaping the United States Afro-dance and Amapiano scene. Originally from the Eastern Cape, South Africa and now based in Washington, D.C., she brings a fierce, infectious energy to every stage she graces. Fusing Afro House, Amapiano, and Afro-tech with movement and soul, Mobu delivers unforgettable sets rooted in African rhythm and elevated by global club culture.
